Marseille

For the last excursion of the second week, the Citadel Group went to the coast city of Marseille located in Provence. Upon arrival,  I was already captured by the serenity of the city which had a cool coast breeze and meadow of red tile roofs. the first stop was the Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, which translates to  Basilica of Our Lady of the Guard. The cathedral featured a colorful and brilliant interior in which we observed alongside a live mass with catacombs and a giant golden statue of Madonna and baby Jesus atop the building. When stopping for lunch we witnessed the commotion between the English and Russian fans who were ready for the Euro Cup.  After taking in the landscape of the city we continued on and observed a Musee des Docks Romain which is a museum of Roman commerce. We proceeded to Cathédrale Sainte-Marie-Majeure a cathedral a massive and well-decorated with beautiful mosaics and grand halls. After a long day, we returned to Montpellier, greatly satisfied.
